Basement Floor Cracks
can i fix my basement floor that has cracks and brings up water when it rains ? does throseal work?
i have cracks in my basement floor and water cmes up through them when it rains. i was told that throseal is a great product that will seal up these cracks and stop the water from coming up through.Is this true or im I going to waste my time by cutting out these cracks and resealing them.
You are wasting your time. You shouldn’t have water under there in the first place. You can fix the cracks, but if the water is still under there, there will still be hydrostatic pressure on your floor and the water will find another place to get into your basement…. either re-crack the floor where you fix it, or make new cracks.
Your basement is missing functioning drainage…. there should be piping or someother adequite drainage around the foundation of your house that channels water into a sump crock in your basement. A sump pump would then pump the water out before it got through cracks in the floor. If you don’t have a sump crock, then you need to install one…. if you have one, and it isn’t filling up, then there is a problem with your drain tile. It isn’t uncommond, due to settling, that the piping that led to your sump crock cracked, seperated, or fillied with dirt blocking proper drainage.
Also make sure your soil surface is properly graded away from your home and that you have gutters and downspouts that alow water to flow away from your foundation instead of down the side of it where it can get under your basement.
