Basement Remodeling Contractor

Do you need support Beams?

I bought a home that was built in 1959 and I’m in the process of remodeling the home. While doing this I noticed the were no support beams in the basement. How is it possible for people to live in a home for nearly 50 years without them. My contractor told me I needed to put some in the basement. I wanted to know why if they have been there for 48 years. There are no dips in the floor and the beams are all solid.

you failed to mention the length of span and the material the beam is made of. just because it hasnt sagged yet doesnt mean it wont. pull a string line from one end of the beam to the other to check it. keep an eye on it and if you notice sag throw a support column in.
