What are the best ways to care for an air hockey table?
I’ve been tirelessly scrubbing the surface to remove black streaks caused by the pushers, but there are still spots on the table where the puck slows down noticeably. What are the best ways to restore my table to its original splendor?
You’ve got to be careful not to scuff it up even more, but the first thing you need to do is use a soft cloth with warm sudsy water. Despite the recommendation below, a mild detergent (like Dawn dishwashing liquid) won’t harm the surface as long as you make sure you don’t leave a residue. But after that, use a little Pledge on the surface to make it smooth and fill in any small scuffs that might remain. You can also use pipe cleaners to make sure the holes are free of debris.
In any case, here’s the official word on what you should do according to a vendor, but try the above anyway:
Q How do I clean my air hockey table?
A We recommend cleaning the table top with a damp cloth only. Chemicals may harm the finish or the table top surface. If you would like to make the surface “smoother”, we recommend you spray a furniture polish on a separate cloth, turn the blower motor on, and wipe the table down with the cloth.
There are also some silicone sprays you can buy from vendors that might help, too.
