Cheap Plasma Televisions
Does cable broadcast in 1080p??? Going to buy a 50inch plasma, 720 or 1080?
So I want to buy a 50 inch plasma and have been told 1080 is the way to go, but the 720p is $400 cheaper. What is your opinion? Is there a big difference, what is the 1080 for if television doesn’t broadcast 1080p???????

Digital cable TV channels are either 1080i (HD), 720p (HD), or 480p.
For 50 inches, there may be a noticeable difference, but it won’t be too big of a difference. As long as you’re sitting at least several feet away from the television, you probably won’t notice unless you are looking for differences. When watching video, the eye pays attention to motion and color much more than it does to fine detail. 720p is perfectly fine for digital cable.
1080p resolution is far from being useless though, it’s basically an interlaced version of 1080i. It’s also the resolution that Blu-Ray uses, and some Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 games are able to output that resolution. In addition, many computer graphics cards can output that resolution or higher, so if a PC is connected to the TV, it is able to display up to 1920×1080 (versus 1366×768, which is typically what 720p sets can support). In addition, there are a few on-demand satellite programs that can do 1080p. But don’t expect 1080p to become the norm for satellite, cable, OR over-the-air broadcast anytime soon, we just don’t have the bandwidth for it.
