Concrete Waterproofing Sealer
Window in shower issue.?
I have a shower with a window in it. The window sil was starting to show some mold in the silacone. I romoved the plastic sil (part of a shower kit) I can replace it but thought I would prefer something a bit different.I have made a frame that I was going to fill with either concrete or mortor mixed with stones. Would either of these be waterproof? I could do tile also but thought that cement with shells in it would be fun? After the concrete cures I was thinking about sealing it with paint or sealer? What do you think. Thanks for your input.
I think part of the problem is that the sil is not tilting away from the window. There is cement backer board but the seam between the vinyl window and the backer board needs to be filled in can cement or silicone help this problem?
Concrete is very porous. There is a product called Dry Lock, which is painted onto concrete to seal basement and foundation walls, but I don’t think it would work as well on something that is going to be getting saturated every day. Lots of d-i-y shows encourage viewers to install tile, but in reality, mortar joints are not as durable as you would think. Any settling of the substrate will cause cracks in the joint, sometimes too small to see easily, and water will find its way to the wood beneath it.
