Can I change an air compressor into a vacuum pump?
I have a 1/4hp vacuum pump that is nowhere near powerful enough for a major repair I have to do. A 2.5 hp vacuum pump will cost in the region of €2-3,000
Why can’t I just tap the air inlet on a 2.5 hp compressor to take a pipe, air-lock, a vaccum guage and open the bleeder tap to disable the auto shut off.
The drive mechanisim and diaphragm are so similar why are the vacuum pumps so extortionate?

yes you can, if you can either weld the clutch closed or pull it in with 12 volts, then block the oil with a seperator on the exhaust as it will spray like a sum beotch, but I did it with a old ford pump,,
cheaper yet to go to harborfreight.com and buy their vacuum for 15 bucks, uses compressed air across a venture hole in a T works good but the compressor sure runs like hell, but it pulled 27 inches for my area which is right,,, for my sea level to inches of mercury,
