How to hook up a PS3 to a Philips home theater system?
The problem is that the PS3 is digital optical and the home theater system is digital coax. I have a converter (like the one shown here: http://www.hdtvhookup.com/tooptococodi.html) but the sound cuts off every now and then which makes gaming and watching blu rays pretty annoying. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue??

If you’re lucky, the only issues you are having are A) checking the audio output format on the PS3, and B) checking the surround sound settings of the philips
A) Make sure the PS3 games audio and BD audio output are compatible with the Philips. Refer to the PS3 manual
Go to the PS3 Audio Output settings and select LINEAR PCM 2Ch + 5.1Ch 44.1Khz only. Test your game sound now. If OK, go back to the settings and add the Dolby Digital 5.1Ch settings. Check again. These formats are probably the best formats to should work with a receiver that does not support optical audio stream. IF necessary, you may need to leave out the Dolby Digital output
You should also go to the Video settings menu to change the BD Audio output format (BluRay). Select the LINEAR PCM output
B) Make sure the Philips receiver supports Dolby Digital surround sound. Refer to the Philips manual for more detail.
The issue could be an indication that it’s time to upgrade your sound system for quality surround sound.
