How do you prevent a sump from overflowing during a blackout?
i have a 46 gallon fish tank. it uses a DIY filter/sump. how it works is water is constantly siphoned out of the fish tank into the sump where is it pumped back up to the fish tank. if there is a power outage, the pump wont work, meaning the sump would overflow because water is still being siphoned. is there anyway to stop the siphon during a blackout? or is there any other way to keep the sump water levels constant?
you need to drill a hole on the outflow pipe that is about half to one inch below the water line. that way it can still function but if the power goes out when the water drops to below the hole the siphon breaks and your sump wont overflow.
