Finished Basement Permit Nj

Certificate of occupancy NJ?

We live in Hamilton, NJ and our township requires every seller to get Certificate of Occupancy. We would like to know what this process is like and what inspector will be checking for. We bought our house back in 2003 when nothing like this was required and we are concerned what he might start asking for. We bought the house with deck and finished basement but we never got any permits or construction contracts from the seller. We did some remodeling but without permits. Could inspector ask us for permits for those? Thank you

C/O is required on a new construction only as far as I know. Once occupied there should not be one required. This may be something strange to NJ
