Finished Basement Quote
Is this a fair price for carpet installation?
I live in the Columbus, OH area. I received a quote to install Mohawk berber carpeting and premium pad in our finished basement. The area is about 200 sq ft, and the price includes removing and disposing of the old carpet and pad. This also includes installing carpet on the stairway. It is a “floating” stairway (with steps only, no risers), so each step will be individually wrapped in carpet. Is $815 a fair price for this job?
Go to rugmedic.com. they have a program that will run an estimate. You type in length and width of room and it calcs SF. Also asks about number of steps, pieces of furniture to move and if you want to remove old carpet and pad. Then calcs based on grade of carpet…you will see 6 different prices based on grade. You decide which grade to get the estimate. This way, if you are like me and never home to let anyone in to give an estimate then this is alternative. I have an carpet store install team coming tomorrow and I ran this as a double check on the estimate. He is well under this so I feel good…he did work for me before and not only beat out all bids but also did it very quick, very good – so hopefuly this will be a repeat. Bad news is he wants to move out of this state! What will I do when he is gone?
. PS if you want to save money you can always make sure that all furniture is moved yourself AND do the carpet tear out. Also you do not always have to get a new pad, although I always do. For the price, why not?
