Room on top of garage conversion?
I had a room built on top of my garage, it is permited as a game room, I have been living in it. LA county inspector called me and wants to look at it, I installed a little kitchen and bathroom.
I never plan to sell, the zone allows 2 homes in the lot, so this is the second, do you thing i may be asked to tear everything down? The hot water is coming to my pipes trough a water hose from the front house. Going crazy here wondering. He will be calling me on Monday. Will i be asked to move out? I hope not. Please advise, thanks
The regulations are different depending on the local regulations and code but if there was not an occupancy permit issued to allow living in the space you will most likely not be allowed to live there.
If the inspector called you and wants to see the space then you probably have been reported by a disgruntled neighbor. If there weren’t proper permits in place to tie into the sewer for the plumbing, etc, you will be tearing out your plumbing work. Good luck. Let’s hope the inspector is in a very generous mood.
