Game Tables For Less
My question has to do with betting rules in No Limit Texas Holdem cash game. This happened the other day?
After the flop, Player A bets $60, Player B goes all in for $79, Player C calls, back to Player A, he wants to raise Player B’s all in another $100 and make a side pot with player C. Player C says he can’t do that, his reason was that Player B’s all in was less then the minimum 50% raise of Player A original bet. Therefore everyone else around the table can only call the $79, or fold. They got in a big argument and called the Supervisor over to the table and after a lot of arguing the Supervisor agreed with Player C and did not allow Player A to reraise. I personally thought that Player A should have been allowed to made his raise and make a side pot with Player C. Remember this was a cash game not a tournament, and would the rules have been any different if it had been a tournament?
Can someone tell me if that was the right ruling?

Usually you have to raise by at least the amount of the largest bet up to that point (in this case $60). An all-in is the exception, but it still counts as a full bet from everybody elses perspective according to most rule sets. So Player A should be able to re-raise by betting at least $139 ($79 + $60). I’ve never played where you only have to raise 50% of the original bet though so you may be operating under a different set of rules.
In any case, in the absence of defined rules, the Supervisor’s ruling is final.
