What’s the best connection to use from MacBook to flat-panel?
I want to use my Samsung 46″ flat panel TV as a monitor for my MacBook. I plan on getting a bluetooth keyboard/mouse so I can use my MacBook from the couch & use the TV on the wall as my monitor. My TV has HDMI, component and PC inputs and I need to know what will give me the best picture clarity. I also have a Philips DVD/home theater system I need to use for audio. Should I use an HDMI cable from my MacBook to my TV and then run audio from the TV to the Philips or should I run a PC input to the TV and stereo RCA inputs to the Philips separately? I already know I’ll need an mini DVI to something cable for my MacBook to start. If you know of a better/cheaper way to do it, let me know! Thanx.
HDMI and DVI are both digital format and are almost identical other than the HDMI can do sound too. Either should give you true HD picture quality. If you’re using a DVI to HDMI adapter dongle, I assume you won’t have sound on your HDMI input to the TV. I run three cables from my sound card (front/sub, rear surround, front left/right), directly to my A/V surround decoder amplifier. My 48″ jvc 1080i tv has a setting to use the tv speakers as a center channel. That works well. If you have digital out on your soundcard and digital in on your phillips you’ll only need one sound cable.
