Split Level Remodel
Load or non load Bearing Wall ?
I am remodeling a home to rent out. There is an 8′ long wall constructed of 2 x 8’s. It was used to separate two bathrooms, it is 5′ in from the outer wall. The only rationale I can see for it was to house the inset vanity mirrors, and a 4″ vent pipe. It does sit perpendicular to the attic joists and at the roof transition since it is a split level house. So, bearing or non load bearing ?
you have to determine if removing that wall would result in the attic joists sitting on it to be unsupported in span for their particular size. for example, is there another wall parallel to this one that is actually carrying the load of the attic. since you say this wall does not run all the way to the outside wall, it is unlikely to be a bearing wall. sounds more like it is just a ‘chase wall’ 2×8 for plumbing.
Hope that helps.
