What’s The Job Function Of Submersible Pumps?

Have you ever wondered how in the world a lake or pond gets pumped out? Ever give any thought to how oil is pulled from under the ocean floor and pumped up to the surface to be refined? There are so many things that we hear about but never really stop and give pause to. Until one of my good friends came by the house the other day after work, I’d really never thought about it either. I know I’d heard of submersible pumps but that’s about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. I knew they existed.

So my childhood friend had just left the job site where his company was doing some work and he dropped by, covered in a really nasty smelling substance. When I opened the door he immediately apologized. I asked him what he had been doing.

He told me he’d been working in the bottom of a well. I told him my well didn’t smell like him, thankfully. He said it was a sewer well. This perplexed me, I was concerned that perhaps there were things going on in wells that I didn’t understand.

Since I drink a lot of water, I decided to ask my friend exactly what he was talking about. I was quite relieved to know that there are different kinds of well for different kinds of water and other fluids. He talked about submersible pumps and how they get everything moving around. I asked him what this meant and he explained how when you try to drain fluids, whether to completely extract them from an area or to clean and filter them, you need to go down underneath of the fluid in order to do a proper job.

If you try to go from the side or from above, the suction won’t be enough to get to all of the fluid. You’ll end up with some fluids rising to the top but many of them will continue to go around on the bottom. I can see where this would definitely be a problem. If you’ve got problems with oil, water, sewage, you name it, the only way to get it taken care of is from underneath the surface. This is what submersible pumps are used for.

He was in a sewage well that day. He was telling me how the pipes that fed into the well had quit working properly so they needed to drain the entire well. They did so with the use of a pump.

Then they cleaned the well thoroughly and removed all deposits and yes, I mean all deposits and had to temporarily close up the pipes so that nothing else came out. As soon as they were done making all necessary repairs, it was imperative to test the pipes. Unfortunately for my friend, he had to stay in the well when this took place. He said without the pump working, he’d have been left in hot water. Well, not really hot water and not really water, but I think you get the point.

When you need to remove fluid or clean fluids from any container, your best bet at getting everything is to use submersible pumps.
