Sump Pump Drainage Hose
advanced sump drainage problem?
my sump is full of salty, rusty discharge that corrodes any float or cheap pump i put in it. the discharge hose from my water softener drains into the same pipe that connects to my sump pump. on the top of the vertical pipe, there is an elbow with a hose connector that my discharge goes to. i have installed a check valve directly below the discharge, and another one by the bottom of the vertical pipe, before it enters the sump. this has not corrected the problem. what else can i do to prevent any further discharge from entering my sump?
is it that i bought middle of the line check valves, or did the check valves corrode? why are they not stopping the discharge?
this is in 1.5inch pvc pipe.
Verify the check valve(s) are installed correctly, as they won’t function otherwise. There should be an arrow indicating direction of flow on the outside of the valve. You can also pull the softener discharge line from the hose connector and pour water into the fitting to verify the check valve is seated correctly. If the check valve isn’t working properly (and it’s installed correctly), it’s time to remove and replace it.
Consider re-routing your softener discharge line to a sanitary sewer discharge – the salty discharge from the softener through the sump pump outlet will ultimately kill any landscaping near the discharge pipe. Hope this helps.
