Sump Pump Lid
My sump pump sits in a hole in the ground under our cement floor, is this as bad as I think it is?
If you pick up the covering lid, you see the dirt and ground below our house… the cement floor just has a big hole in it and the pump was placed down in there. It works fine, but it looks gross to me and I’m concerned we have bugs and our big radon problem is coming from there. Our radon level was a 7! Not good…
How can we repair this? We have a french drainage type system that has several different tubes all running into this hole… so we can’t really just seal it up.
A properly installed system should cover the pump and pit. The lid should allow water in without allow the moisture out. A pit without a lid can allow a lot of pollutants into the home, perhaps radon, bacterial byproducts, parasites, attract insects, some molds, especially the humidity. Speak to a water-proofing contractor that can help you complete the system you have installed.
