Sump Pump Smell

I need help with a bad clog and horrible smell?

We bought our house a little over a year ago and upon living here we realized we have major water issues with our basement. We have a sump pump that pushes the water from one part of the basement to the other and down a drain. Now we have (according to my husband) a really bad clog that he can’t break through with an auger. Our whole house smells of this rancid odor and the water in our basement isn’t draining. Usually we are do-it-our selfers and can’t afford to hire a plumber. I need help! What can we do to clear this clog other than draino and augers? Is it normal to have such a horrible smell from a clog? Please help!

Do you have a septic tank or are you on city water and sewer? If you have a septic tank, it may be full and needs draining. In the future, you need to use a treatment like RID X to treat the tank and avoid problems like this.
If you are on city water, you may have any number of problems. The connection to the main sewer line is probably blocked or there could be a crack or hole in the line – that could cause a blockage and bad odor.
You might want to check with the city to come and take a look at the lines, and be sure their part is stable and functioning. Depending on the employee who comes out, you may get some advice from them regarding what your problem is.
Good luck to you, sounds like a bummer :(
