Help Buying A Billiard (Pool) Table..?

Hello, I am looking at buying a new table. I looked for used tables but I’ve just decided to buy new because I don’t want to pay for someone to install it, after I would pay that I would only need 400 more and I could buy new. What is a good table within the price range of $1500-$2000? I don’t need anything too fancy I just want the best table for the price. Thanks for your help!

Been there. Done that. Researched it. Quite happy with my Olhausen.

1). Hit the Internet for billiard sites. Make sure you have enough room. 8 foot works great in a house if it fits. Smaller tables get boring, and larger tables are too challenging for inexperienced players, so they don’t get played.

2) Pool tables are hard to move. Buy one you like, and that you and the room can live with.

3) I soon realized that the Internet is great for info, rules, hints on purchasing, but lacking when it comes to purchasing. Like you, I wanted it set up properly. So I visited every billiard store in the greater metropolitan area. Kick the tires, so to say. I went with a long existing local firm with a good reputation that had the ability to set me up with the design, service, and fabric I wanted. And I can get it the felt replaced by people I know and trust. (Grand-kids happen).

There are always lots of personal opinions regarding tables, but you’ll be able to pick them out if you haven’t already. My opinions are not cloaked. I have seen some beautiful one-up tables made by craftsmen, and they were wonderful (and expensive pieces of artwork), but you would do yourself a favor to stay away from certain third world products that are made with inferior slate and shipped haphazardly across oceans.
