For extra water resistance and strength, use 500mm boarding, as opposed to the thinner 250mm version. On top of your hardiebacker board and also on your walls, you will also need to lay waterproof matting, such as Homelux waterproof wall matting, to create a completely covered waterproof membrane.
Now the fun part – choosing bathroom tiles. With so many types and styles to choose from, you can create virtually any look for your new wetroom. Bear in mind the different types of tiling available, such as natural stone, porcelain, ceramic, travertine, and slate, as these each have different qualities and textures. On top of your tiles, you will need to apply a layer of grout to seal the gaps between the tiles. Ensure you purchase a good quality grout with anti-bacterial properties to prevent the build-up of black mould and harmful bacteria such as Listeria, Salmonella, and E-coli.
